I miss these chipmunks, but seeing this made me glad to have not seen them for quite a while. This movie was utterly horrible especially from Jason Lee's performance. Lee just looked bored and trying to find some sort of emotion to feed off of, but nope all there was was crap acting that tried to seem funny but instead appeared awkward and sarcastic.

A slap in the face to Ross Bagdasarian Rr. They took a charming, appealing kids show, that to this day I still enjoy, and metamorphosed it into an abomination that only a fat american six-year-old stuffing his face with junk food could enjoy. Alvin and the Chipmunks is not about modern music and Britney Spears-esque choreography, so don't try and make it that way.

I saw it with my nephew, and the only time i cracked a smile is one theodore says something. He's just so damn cute. But the humour is dry along with the rest of the film.

Terrible, make no mistake--Jason Lee mugs non-stop, there's nothing of any interest for those older than 8. and what the hell is David Cross doing in this?? Yet... somehow, it IS rather cute--if you disengage brain completely before viewing.

I prefer fingernails on a chalkboard to hearing Alvin and friends talk, much less sing. I'd seriously contemplate slitting my wrists if I had to endure this entire film in the theater with my kids...

You might not realize what's happened at first, as immersed in this kind of stuff as we all are these days. It wasn't until I was talking with my editor about how to politely describe the "poop" scenes in this kiddie flick that I realized just what the poor ol' Chipmunks have become. How could their late creator be pleased? And most parents won't be either as they're forced to try to short-circuit the toilet humor. (pluggedin.com)

sad attempt to bring everyone's favorite chipmunks (sorry chip n dale!) to the screen for a new generation of children. the problem? the foolish decision to try and make the chipmunks "hip and now" for the kids, rather than just relying on their natural appeal to children. jason lee did do a pretty good job of playing the downtrodden Dave, though.

Not as bad as I was expecting, but pretty horrible all the same. You can tell both Jason Lee and David Cross are really phoning it in. The love interest was pointless. The CG "realism" just came off as creepy. The merging of modern media with the 1960s Chipmunk traditions was cringeworthy. The chipmunks themselves were cute...except for the poop eating scene. All these problems could have been avoided if was a traditionally animated movie and not a CG/LA hybrid.

My two year old daughter often cries out for movies that she especially liked. "Wall-E!" "Cars!" "Spongebob Squarepants!" Not once has she called out for this piece of shit and that should tell you something. Horrible in every way.

I'd say it was a missed opportunity, but there honestly isn't much potential for greatness in a movie about singing rodents. Kids will probably enjoy it well enough, but, once the mild excitement of seeing these "beloved" characters realized in CG wears off, there's not much here for the adults.

An excellent family movie. I'm guessing the bad reviews are from snobby, lonely singles who like their movies shot in black and white and with an ending that makes no sense. I also like that it's not dripping with the sappy musical numbers that kill a lot of other animations for me.

They tried to mix live action with animation. Several films have failed at this, and now Alvin and The Chipmunks is one of them. Although there is some great singing from the munks, it's a terrible little family/kids abomination. Jason Lee and David Cross try to make the film more enjoyable, but they fail at doing so. Please, I beg you, don't see this movie.

The music is decent and could've been much worse, same with the CGI. In fact, pretty much the same with the whole movie. Everything just tries to be just barely above what everyone pretty much expected. We have had some truly great family films over the last few years, mainly thanks to Pixar. Due to these movies that go leaps and bounds above what is expected, there is no place for movies as mediocre as Alvin anymore.

Okay, hated the shit out of it at first, then I watched it again and well, I am in love with this movie. It's terrible, don't get me wrong, but it is so cute that you eventually just drink the Kool-Aid and end up all "wook at chubby widdle Theodore! He had a bad dream and needs a hug!" Damn this movie!

Chipmunks turns out to be pretty badly animated and poorly written story. Jason Lee is overacting all the way. This piece is not a pure animation; it mixes live action and animation (mainly chipmunks). If you are not the real Chipmunks fan, you maybe do not find the kick from it. Like I did not. Some singing was cool.

This movie catches you off guard because everything about it really should suck, a lot. It tries painfully hard to be funny in a quick and sassy way and fails at every single opportunity. Dave's "love-interest" character is so pointless she makes my brain hurt. And yet I can't help but love the chipmunks. Immensely. The movie still sucked, though.

Similar humour to 'Josie & the Pussycats', but not executed near as well, and its burdened with hyper-annoying chipmunk voice-overs. Lee and Cross try to save it, but they can't. Anyone who paid money to see this is going on Earl's list.

Why was this made? Kids today aren't familiar with the series, pop music references are dated, the actors don't seem to be into it, and the story doesn't go anywhere. I watched it hoping it would be rife with ironic humor value and though it was, I'd recommend getting your camp elsewhere. Especially since you'll get their christmas song stuck in your head all week.

Cute. Much better than expected. Chipmunks are great, as is David Cross. Overall some pretty funny humor. However, I was sorely disappointed at the lack of the Chipmunks theme from the 80s cartoon. Oh well. Maybe for the sequel.

Well, the storyline is rushed, and that, other than Lees acting, is about the worst thing about this movie. For children, this is a great movie. Before people go off on how it dumb or weird, they need to realize that it was made for kids. They aren't going to judge a movie based on the acting or graphics. Its fine to comment on Lees steadily falling acting career, but its not something to base your score on. It should be based on novelty, which this movie seemed to have a lot of.
