(Viewed in 2011):Alvin Purple was a box office sensation in Australia in 1973 and remains one of its top grossing domestic films when adjusted for inflation, but it's a weak one joke affair sold on the novelty of its premise: an average joe who becomes irresistible to women. As a sex farce it's utterly tame and nowhere near as outrageous or funny as the Euro erotic comedies of the time, and it has little worth as a cultural artifact either. Blundell is a likeable dope, but the material is junk.
