Kudos for having the lovely Elle Fanning in a leading role, flawed as it was. The subject of suicide is never an easy one, and while this one does not make light of it, the seriousness of it was not very adequately conveyed. For that reason I reduced my otherwise better score. Worth watching, but forgettable.

This was a great throwback to the indie flicks of the 2000s and early 2010s. May not be the most original of stories, but it has the right amount of heart and emotion. The chemistry and performances from the two leads, I thought were great, and helped left this higher.

Niven's book holds a special little place in my heart. This did not do it justice.

I'm not usually one to complain about characters not being fleshed out enough but this one definitely needed a bit more with Finch's character. It's so schmaltzy and I'm a g dang sucker

Please stop mentioning Woolf in your teen movies because everyone's going to think I'm a poser when I say she's a favourite of mine.

Harmless by-the-numbers teen romance. The script is paced horribly with a really unearned twist, but it could've been saved with good direction and, most importantly, great acting. Fanning is decent, Smith is just not good enough. Not even the parents, usually so reliably good in movies like this, are acted that well. The cinematography is nice to look at but ultimately sterile. For the hefty themes it tries to tackle, it feels light and inconsequential. Perfect for the Netflix queue machine.

I can't believe this had *this* resolution. I hate it so much. I thought I was in for a cutesy teen thing, but it just wades into a tragedy that is explored so superficially and wrapped with a ribbon at the end. I am in disbelief. And upset.
