All Together Now

May have lacked a little depth, but still an emotionally charged indie film, that does quite well without feeling over the top. The cast, led by the delightful Auli'i Cravalho, is great and, she also gets to show her vocal talents with a nice song, which highlights the soundtrack.

High school senior Amber Appleton (a charming Auli'i Cravalho who, of course, gets to sing) isn't just a do-gooder, she's a do-everythinger. She's got a gig teaching ESL to a pack of older immigrants (mostly, they sing their new language), a job at an old folks' home (where Carol Burnett's delightfully crochety Joan lives), another job at a local donut shop, and she appears to be her high school's most reliable crusader for all manner of issues...

It could have been a better film if it didn't gloss over the traumatic events the main character experienced through dialogue. Film is a visual medium. Help the audience understand the severity of what she was going through. It was too PG and it hurt itself. Cravalho is a solid young actress and does her best to display the emotion required with the little substance she was given to do so. She is likable and I would cast her if she auditioned for a role in my films. She is talented.

All Together Now, çok tatlı, samimi ve izleyici hüzünlendirebilirken, aynı zamanda bol bol gülümseten de bir film. Tek eksiği, senaryonun sadece feel-good hikayesi olarak kalıp, basit kalmayı tercih etmesi. İzlerken çok iyi vakit geçirdim.
