Alice in Wonderland

Carol Marsh is wonderful as Alice. The stop animation might be dated, but I found it rather interesting. Although this was in the children's section at my video store, it seemed a bit scary for small kids. Stylish and inventive. Only wish it had been a little longer.

This is a weird UK-French-US co-production of Alice in Wonderland (1949) which mixes live-action and puppets. Gives off old TV production vibes, but it's a fascinating adaptation of the Alice adventure. Like a stripped down amateur attempt. And that all makes sense when you realize that the director's main experience came from pioneer TV. Whether it's good or not is hard to judge. But with the puppets coming to life and the way they incorporated the other fantasy stuff, there in an allure.
