The movie turns on the "Alibi" theme, which I didn't find amusing.

Gosh, Joe E. Brown sure loved baseball! This is his 3rd movie in 3 years about the sport! And it's there in the middle with all the other Brown comedies. Good screwy fun filled with mindless gags and Brown being a guy that is too shy to admit he's in love with Olivia de Havilland and gets caught in a match-fixing racket (AGAIN!). The nickname 'Alibi' is because he always got an excuse for all the trouble he's in. If one like Joe E. Brown, one will like this comedy. If not...well....
