Alias the Doctor

Have you ever seen a movie that you're unsure of what it was saying or why it was made? That's this one, which seems to want to say something about family but it all gets goofed up in contrivance. Barthelmess is great and besides Curtiz's usual solid direction is the only reason to check it out.

A good hours entertainment with Richard Barthelmess in the lead. The actor that gained fame in the silent era trying to adjust to the sound era with mixed results. He was no natural actor for the talkies, yet he performs with such energy that he comes across strong anyway. And with a dramatic story and solid direction from Michael Curtiz, we get a fine one even if it's a bit rushed. This production would have benefited a lot had it been a bigger and longer movie because the rest was quality.
