The least relatable character since my own obituary. I think I had a workable joke that could have come out of that idea, but that clearly wasn't it. I'll work on it.

The Ali G character doesn’t slot into a narrative piece nearly as well as the hilarious interviews of the TV show, but Cohen’s absolute irreverence, disregard for political correctness and sheer commitment to the role make a fair amount of the juvenile humour really work. It runs out of steam long before the end, but it’s worth sticking around for the joke about demolishing Slough.

Cohen is certainly at his best when his wit is on display with real people. The genius of the original show is using his crazy, dumb, inept, and hateful characters in clever ways. In a scripted comedy, like this, the incisiveness is lacking. It's still funny though...even if it's not in the same league as the tv show and the other two movies it spawned.

I love Sacha Baron Cohen/Ali G/Borat as much as the next guy, but sadly, the movie just doesn't deliver the laughs. What makes Ali G so funny is the way he interacts with *reality*. A movie seems like it would be doomed before it even began. ... It is.

On one hand, the movie is extremely appropriate for the character. It's exactly the kind of thing Ali G would enjoy. Like a professional version of his James Bond television pilot. On the other hand, it's pretty bad.

Truly unbearable tripe, placing the ersatz homie in a series of improbable situations without a root in humor. Poor Sascha Baron Cohen is left to improv decidedly dull scenarios with his one-note character.

Cohen before he realised that his episodic "skit" based comedy doesn't really fit narrative storytelling - undoubtedly a few funny moments here and there (and *SPOILER* I guess - **any film that gives you Charles Dance twerking in hot pants before that was a thing can't be all bad**), but this is still a largely leaden and crudely obvious affair, with only Gambon and Dance's effortless skill bringing life to things - Cohen's Ali is the least appealing and interesting of his alter egos to date.

It's trash, has a lot of flat jokes, and contains many problematic moments. I think the only way to appreciate this movie is to have lived near chavs. There's a propier british white trash experience in there. You've got to love that Staines - a shithole of a city - thought they were above this and renamed themselves to distanciate themselves from the movie. Try living in Staines and you'll get it.

Ali G is quite a memorable comedic creation and Sacha Baron Cohen is excellent in bringing him to life. "Ali G Indahouse" has some very funny moments and some rather predictable ones, yet contains enough good jokes throughout to be an enjoyable, rewarding watch.

Incredibly juvenile. Most jokes fall flat, though I admit I laughed at some of them. However the bad far outweighs the good. While not so bad that I had to force myself to keep watching, Sacha Baron Cohen has made a lot better than this and you can probably skip this film.

Looking at the quality of Borat and to a lesser extent Bruno you get the thought that this film may have played it safe, low end humour with a basic plot line to appeal to wide audience blah blah, but then the Dictator came along and has as many brief high points as this film. Maybe that's how a film career works. Play it safe, then your big risk big pay off project, rinse and repeat, then back to tried and trusted formats for as long as you can hold out. Eg Adam Sandler.

It's bad not just because most jokes are unfunny, but also because even the good ones feel kind of lost in such a lazy script. Cohen would do a much better job in Borat.

You will not find a bigger fan of Ali G or Borat as me. I own both seasons of the show. Bought Borat having not seen it since it never came to my local theater. Second best sight unseen buy of my life (right after Hot Fuzz). That should make this score that much more of an impact. This was crap compared to the rest of his stuff. Hell, his role in Talledega Nights was better. This made me sad.

The first film to come out of Da Ali G show (and the only one not to feature the show's put-real-people-in-awkward-situations antics), Indahouse is just a mediocre comedy by any standard. There are as many hits here as there are misses, though a couple of the better bits raise it to the level of slightly above average.

Ali G's genius was in his interviews, not the VHS filler material that inspired this feature-length effort. There are some really puerile laughs for the immature among us, and it's consistently light-hearted throughout, but too many of the gags are embarrassingly poor and seem to be aimed at an audience far younger than the one he gained with his TV shows. The final act is particularly lazy. A very generous pass, as long as you go in with low expectations to begin with.

Loved Borat. Thought Bruno was pretty funny too. So when I found out that Sacha had made a movie for his Ali G character, I thought it would be like the other movies. This movie is not - Bruno and Borat are films where Sacha enrolls unknowing people to "reveal themselves" on film, exposing truths and hypocrisies of the Western world. This film was just over-the-top acting and stupidity. I am embarrassed that I watched this film.

Cohen's Ali G characters are at their best in real situations. In scripted scenarios, the genuine humor from the reactions of the unaware are lost and with those reactions missing, you're left with uninteresting stereotypes interacting with uninteresting characters. Stick with the original UK TV series.
