Algie, the Miner

A bit of an odd comedy. Quirk's Algie character is *so* campily effeminate in the first half that that will probably be the main thing anyone remembers about this, but you also get a subplot about saving his western friend from "the demon drink" that can't quite settle between comically overblown melodrama and straight drama. It's solidly shot and edited to get quite a bit accomplished in under 10 minutes, but the real draw is seeing it handle this subject matter back in 1912.

OK, Brokeback Mountain it ain't, but Guy works a lot into ten minutes here, up until it doesn't so much end as stop.
