Alexander the Great

Generally well-wrought film, with Burton perhaps a little stiff in the lead (and sporting a Christopher Atkins perm!) Supporting cast of veteran epic players are all fine, with Andrews reliably excellent, and March the highlight as Alexander's father; underplayed Oedipal interpretation works well. Rossen directs the action scenes competently, but film overall is lacking the fire of the greatest epics, and is a little too stiff and formal to be campy fun. Still quite enjoyable for genre fans.

A pretty typical epic of the time. Interesting battle sequences although it gets pretty boring at times. This film is quite average.

Truly epic in its scope this does belong with the pantheon of historical epics. The pace slips at times and it needed a good editor to keep the story moving (at least by today's pace) - However some good acting albeit a little melodramatic at times. Sound coverage of the macedonian story.

Far better than 2004 remake. Poor battle scenes and tactics but powerfull character portraits. Character arcs and developments are great..

Decent sword and sandal biopic that gets bogged down by boring battles (and how can they be so boring, given the scope of all the extras involved?). Wardrobe was colorful and fantastic. Fav scene: Alexander hyping up the battle against Darius.
