Genuine and funny turns from Carrell and Garner lead this short and sweet family comedy with a refreshingly simple slapstick story that offers plenty of laugh out loud moments to go with a nice little heartwarming message about getting through tough times that's rarely distasteful in its straight-forward delivery, although it is watered down a bit by the easy happy ending- but hey, it's for the kids, and adults can still appreciate the authenticity of the "sometimes life is hard" aspect of it.

Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner make this more likable than the script and the child actors should otherwise have allowed. Starts out annoying, but gets pretty cute when they start to do their slapstick thing. Good for kids.

When the lights go up on this thing, Alexander's mom still has a crappy job with a harrdian boss, and his brother's still suspended from school, and everyone's lives are still chaotic, but they're all still themselves and they're still a family and they still stick together and look out for each other, and as a parent I really dug the whole "life kinda sucks sometimes but at least you've got your family" message, so I guess ultimately I thought this movie was good. So there.

TV aberta.

This movie wasn't bad. Though i could definitely tell it was a Disney movie, i liked it. It had good acting, directing, and writing.

The most annoying sound in the world is a crying baby. And this movie has a lot, A LOT of that sound.
This movie should be forbidden in buses, trains, planes, cinemas and everywhere.

The main kid is completely insufferable, makes the movie unwatchable for non-children.

This film didn't hook me from the get go, but Carell's performance did make me laugh out loud a few times and had me invested before the end. The cast worked well together, and they all got their moments to shine. Overall, a kid-friendly, upbeat, whimsical romp with a positive message that doesn't outstay its welcome, and will keep you moderately entertained.

This is a decent film for the whole family. There are many slap stick comedy moments for kids to laugh at and I think adults will also take something away from this movie. The cast is also great with Jennifer Garner and Steve Carell keeping the story moving along. Disney also know their audience because this film barely scrapes 80 mins so there is no chance of restless kids in the closing moments. Its a fun movie to watch at the time but im not sure this will require any repeat viewing.

Would Walt Disney himself have thought that was all oh-so-precious-and-family-funny for the kiddos? Or would it have led to a really terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day at the Mouse House? (pluggedin.com)

Likeably silly and winningly sweet, an enjoyable - if rather brief - watch. There are a number of solid gags and the cast work well together. It's not quite as good as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid trilogy, but it's playing in the same wheelhouse, and I appreciate that.

This movie is decisively average. Never boring, but never interesting. Acting was all adequate given the material. The script has a few holes but the directing is able to cover it up proficiently. Just come into the movie with the mindset that Steve Carell is playing Michael Scott 10-20 years after the office, and you might have some fun.

Its not groundbreaking or anything, but its a pretty solid kids movie. Maybe a little forgettable, but its not really trying to be memorable anyway.
