Probably the laziest sequel ever; not only are the jokes rehashed, but they even go so far as to insert clips from the original. Not nearly as funny as "Airport 79".

(Viewed in 08/15): A fine parody film that remains underappreciated largely due to group think, Airplane II does indeed rip off the style of the original, but the expression that imitation is the greatest form of flattery rings entirely true in this instance. There are many recycled gags, but Finkleman riffs on them well, and there are plenty of hilariously gonzo moments, including a clever spoof of 2001 and a show stealing cameo by Shatner as a clueless commander.

Is Airplane II: The Sequel worth seeing? Did you like Airplane!? Do you want to see Airplane! in space? Because that's basically what Airplane II is. It's the same movie, but it takes place primarily in space. The jokes are recycled, the plot is identical, many of the situations are similar, but, yes, it's all still pretty funny, even if it lacks the freshness of the original. If that sounds like it's worth your time, it probably will be. You'll laugh a good amount.

Silly disorganised assemblage of gags, most of which are pretty funny if they hit you in the right mood. Lacks the momentum and pace of the best spoof movies, but still quite enjoyable, with Hagerty especially hilarious, and Bridges reprising his role from Part 1.

Saying Airplane! didn't need a sequel is like saying water is wet, but it needs to be emphasised. Aside from a few chuckles, it is completely pointless, with most the jokes being unfunny. Worse, it is a rehash of as many jokes from the original as possible and, despite being in space, the same loose plot in tone. Still, at least it had William Shatner in it.

A pretty sad sequel, this film is the ultimate comedy dead end. Here's my guess as to how it was conceived, "Hey, guys! I got a great idea for a sequel to Airplane!! (note the proper use of punctuation) We'll do everything the same, only IN SPACE!" So, it's funny again, but it's also... Crap!

Like the original it machine guns jokes at you so that if the last one didn't work there's about 3 or 4 coming within a minute. Sadly, unlike the first, the unfunny amount of jokes completely dwarfs the funny. By half an hour into the film you're just tired of one failed joke after another and any desire to laugh has been stripped from you. And yes, I loved the original.

It maybe borrows a bit too much from the first movie and also lacks Leslie Nielsen, but I thought this was still an entertaining time. Honestly, I found the jokes that didn't try to replicate the first movie to be more enjoyable than some of the reused from the previous movie. The movie also tries to rehash the romance of the first one as well, which doesn't work as well since Elaine is pretty horrible to Ted in most of this film.

Not as nearly as good as the original. They tried to reuse the jokes and tried to replicate its tone, but it's a soulless effort lacking the charisma, energy and freshness of the first film. The shift to a space setting is lame too from a modern perspective, looks dated, but I guess it was a trend in the 80s. Not a good film.

It is better movie that the first, but only if you never seen it. Bigger budget, density of jokes through the roof, it is what the original would be if it was made in the right era. I write this as someone who did see it without knowledge of the original. If you've seen that, you'll have hard time getting through all the repeated jokes.

Airplane! was succeed in combining its wit and slapstick with near-perfect timing; The Sequel doesn't. This sequel sets up its sci-fi motif immediately, but it ventures into modern lazy parody more than it does genuine comedy. The most annoying facet is the use of flashbacks to setup a joke and then immediately repeating the joke. The film just as crude as the original, just sadly nowhere near as funny.

There re many call back jokes and more of them worked for me than I expected, but when they don't they usually elicit a groan. It's only 84 minutes. If you liked the first one give it a shot.

Quite funny. Going from a plane to a spacecraft is a welcoming change (that involves a lot of wonderfully cruddy model work) and there's plenty of good jokes, whether they be visual, slapstick, parodies, or puns. Unfortunately, there's also a lot of jokes repeated from the first movie (at one point, they just show a whole scene from the first movie) -- if this movie had been more original, it might've been as funny as its predecessor.

"Airplane II: The Sequel" is overall less of a laughfest compared to the first film. The beginning feels a little cramped, as writer/director Ken Finkleman tries to channel the spirit of the dream team that created the original. Despite the false start, the movie takes off and holds its own, even though Finkleman teasingly rips off entire scenes from the first film. Some successful new jokes keep things fresh and, although this is not as essential as the first film, it remains good fun.

People who enjoyed the predecessor seem to be disappointed in the sequel. People who did not enjoy the predecessor will have difficulty telling much difference. But because fidelity, not originality, is the goal this time (a new writer and director, Finkleman, has taken over for the Kentucky Fried Theater team), there may be a bit more of a sense of Mission Accomplished. The sheer volume of jokes, however, impresses more by industry than by wit.
