great swordplay, and satisfying action, but the story here is a bit lacking. i expected more romance from a movie about don juan. errol flynn never disappoints--even into his late 30's.

Flynn shows just how a good actor with great charisma can dominate the screen and carry the film. The story may not be anything special, but it works as a vessel for fun intrigue, entertaining dialogue and a few fun fight scenes.

A slice of cheese starring Errol Flynn as Don Juan (you don't say) in his last swashbuckler for Warners Brothers. Flynn, only 39, is past his sell-by date, though director Vincent Sherman (another reputed Don Juan) is said to have pieced together his performance from bit and pieces, as Flynn was too out of sorts to complete long takes.

A much more mature movie than we're used to from the swashbuckling Errol Flynn - possibly because he is 10 years older than in his other similar appearances. Don Juan's notorious influence with ladies leaves even Queen Margaret of Spain, Viveca Lindfors, defenseless. Good plot buildup with tension. Errol does lack some of the energy we're so used to in these films, but the intricate story line and supporting cast certainly make up for it. The story is similar to the Three Muskateers

Flynn was perfect in this role, even more so than Robin Hood or Captain Blood. Going in, I knew to expect him to be a suave and savvy swashbuckler, and to see plenty of exciting swordplay. What I didn't expect was how much I'd enjoy the humor and wit in this movie! Flynn may not have been on his A game during filming, but you'd never suspect that by his performance. He is Don Juan!

A solid swashbuckler from Errol Flynn. Better than Captain Blood not quite as good as Adventures of Robin Hood or Sea Hawk, but close. Better than average dialog, only with a slightly weaker plot/sword-play.

Those with keen eyes may spot bits of footage lifted from THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD.

Flynn was coming off a series of commercial failures, so this was intended to be a return of his early success in swashbucklers. Sadly, this is not really a return to form. Raoul Walsh and Michael Curtiz both dropped out of the directing chair due to disputes with Flynn, and the far less impressive Vincent Sherman stepped in. It shows ... this is a fairly uninspired outing. Flynn is 38 years old and not in good health, so his screen presence is a bit diminished.

While it was clear that Errol Flynn swashbuckling days was quickly nearing its end, Adventures of Don Juan (1948) was still a lot of fun. The drunken charmer was still a master with the ladies and what's a better quality when you're playing Don Juan?

This doesn't have a great reputation, but I found it a great deal of fun, with great sets and color photography, a fun story, and solid swashbuckling action. I didn't love Lindfors performance, but it's just a good old fashioned movie.
