It's way too staged for me

As the Spanish-American war continued, so too did the Edison studio's love of smoke effects. The vigorous flag-waving does a pretty good job of showing what the main point of these films was. Having the volley of fire towards the camera, followed by the American troops advancing with their backs to us was a good creative choice for the "you are there" sensation, making this a very a much more "cinematic" action scene than most from the time, which feel more like stage scenes.
