Above Suspicion

Clarke delivers an Oscar-worthy performance & initially very sympathetic character, but no one saw it b/c the screenwriter, a former drug addict, & bleeding heart filmmakers, expect viewers to NOT lose sympathy for an addict so self-destructive, she blows her chance to get her & her kids to a better life in Witness Protection. Noyce's chronic use of odd angles doesn't help. By the end, they're so desperate to regain sympathy, they fictionalize the agent who chose to confess beating her to death.

Extra points for the wildly irresistible Emilia Clarke who elevates this greatly. The story is gritty. It was chaotic at times, has low-life characters, but a compelling story of poverty, obsession, desperation and of wanting more. I disliked some of the narration. There were many very intense moments. Worthwhile and poignant especially considering it's a true story.
