Why would they spoil the twist in all of the trailers?!?! That's like all this film has going for it.

If you want to swim in a pool of blood while laughing, Abigail will be a great option for you. I haven't laughed this hard in a movie in a long time. Its approach to vampire mythology is awesome. Its story with lots of twists is very enjoyable. Also, the horror aspect is extremely good. I had so much fun.

An extremely awful mishmash of only the stupidest cliches. And I often find myself commenting on the medical nonsense of bad movies: In real life if you're not a trauma surgeon please do not pull out a large object lodged inside somebody's thigh. It could be tamponading a major femoral blood vessel, and the person will bleed like a fountain.

It has its moments but it remains quite generic; am kinda tired of this new wave of blockbuster horror that seems to copy itself ad infinitum and results in diluted ideas. To be fair, this is pretty decent for a slasher, it's pretty well made, but it feels uninspired. It honestly was not giving the way it was trying to.

Unfortunately, all the marketing spoils the main young, let's say "antagonist". It was mostly a generic movie, but there were some things I enjoyed, like this line: "The thing about being a vampire is, it takes a long time to learn how to do the cool shit.”

Another blast from Gillet, Olpin and Busick. These guys just get it when it comes to camp. The first act is a bit slow and I’m still scratching my head about the actual vampire logic here, but it mostly stayed consistent in terms of lore, the laughs all felt earned, and the action and fighting was surprisingly gritty and entertaining. The trailer spoiled some of the twists unfortunately, but there was still plenty of surprises here, and a mostly excellent cast! It was everything I wanted!

Fun horror comedy with an all-in effort by Alisha Weir, who shows she's game for anything. Pretty cheesy at parts, but a fun popcorn slasher all the same.

Spiritually, feels very similar to Lisa Frankenstein - another Kathryn Newton vehicle - in that it's clearly not taking itself too seriously, but I think still wants to provide a certain level of spook and scare. Definitely had fun with this! It's no surprise that this reunites the directors of Scream VI with one of its main stars (Melissa Barrera), who does good work here. Touching post-film tribute to Angus Cloud, and well done to Alisha Weir for going all-in with the Abigail character.

For what’s it’s worth, Abigail feels like the most fresh take on the Vampire sub genre in awhile. Whether it’s fairly cliche, but fun writing exudes itself, or even the individual performances themselves feeling fun and over the top, it provides a good amount of entertainment on its own. However, the pacing issues and constant convolution of it’s lore feels messy, and mostly done just to subvert it’s tropes, instead of servicing them. Still, there is a lot of good stuff here.

Film d'horreur moyennement divertissant.

I distinctly thought of Ready or Not multiple times throughout Abigail. Lo and behold, it's the same directing team. While not on par with Ready or Not, Abigail is a bloody good time.

Much more fun than I expected,I just wish they hadn't shown the twist in the trailer. Some of the best vampire deaths since the Blade movies

Kind of annoying they killed off the characters I was having the most fun with first. It’s pretty paint by numbers and once you found out one of them is a mother trying to get her life in order you knew she wasn’t dying.

A barrel of laughs. Nails the horror comedy balance expertly. Good setup and execution. Phenomenal over the top kills. Reminds me a lot of Redfield in that regard which I also enjoyed quite a bit. Punches above its weight and thought Barrera was great. For this style of movie this is near elite without quite reaching it. Strong 7.5.

Though I am not a big fan of horror movies, this one has a new take and a nice twist on the Vampire genre. The little ballerina was quite a unique character. I liked most of the who-dunnit feeling, but the ending went a little off the rails and there were some plot contradictions and a kooky twist. Worth watching (which, for me is high praise)

Abigail does everything you want from a horror film of this nature. It was actually more comedic with the dialogue than I anticipated but it works very well in the films favor. The third act really ramps up the tension and horror elements. The stands outs in acting are of course Stevens and Barrera along with Weir. Wonderfully well made the twists will keep you guessing as that will happen next. It was fantastic. You can't ask for more.

Basically a ballerina vampire remake of Ready or Not. It spends way too much time with expository boring dialogue here and there and it feels stretched because they manage to thicken the plot -- from Abigail's hunting game to organized crime shit -- to almost two hours, maybe eyeing a sequel, but hey, it's Radio Silence's best film and it's full of delicious gore material -- vampires exploding in glorious blood blasts every time they get killed. I'm kinda surprised it didn't make more money.

There are some problems. I understand what they're trying to do with the ballet but I found it kind of corny whenever it was implemented. Alisha Weir was awesome as Abigail, bringing some complex stuff to life... impressive for an adult, never mind a kid. I liked this more for the first half or 3/4 then it dropped a bit with some of the turns, but up until that point it was an 80 because it was tense and mysterious. It's a solid vampire flick ultimately but isn't the best example of the genre.

Assuming minimal changes, this script must've read as excellent. 1 of the few problems is that the title & ESPECIALLY the marketing reveals a mystery that would've made the first hour riveting. Instead we're waiting for the characters to figure out what the ads told us. Still the rest of the story is relentlessly unpredictable. It even seems like it might disregard Woke DEI cliches, but ultimately ends on an uber-feminist note. 10 years ago that might've felt uncommon, but not now.

It seems to think it's very clever for doing a gimmick that horror movies have been doing for decades. Stevens gives it as much personality as he can and he's the best thing in the movie, followed closely by Weir chewing as much scenery as she possibly can, but alas, it's not quite enough.

"Abigail" (2024) captivates with a gripping twist on vampire lore, blending horror and dark comedy. Alisha Weir shines as a not-so-helpless captive in a plot full of surprises. Strong performances and lush production values make this a standout horror-comedy.
