Apes Makoto Shinkai but without anywhere near as much directorial talent but equally as vapid at storytelling. The movie relies on contrived non-sense that often relies on characterization flip flopping to suit the needs of the plot. The most egregious example of this is Kinako who is given a motivation in conflict with the leads and just... out of nowhere changes her mind? I also didn't care much for the sappy romantic leaning when the dichotomy of cat and humanity was a better hook.

This is a cute anime. I liked the fantasy element - the sort of rules of going between cat and human form. Its very sentimental and cheesy but if you like that sort of thing, its a good bit of fun as well. A nice anime - nothing earth shattering but not bad for a pretty family friendly anime film.

I admit it's pretty good, but no my favourite. But that love letter catastrophy scene! Reminds me of school

I found this to be refreshingly sweet little movie was some gorgeous animation. The finale was a little too drawn out for my taste but I enjoyed the ending and I really enjoyed the silent afterward.

Starts off as a fairly typical teen romance story, but quickly takes a quirky and magical turn. It has a bit of weirdness to it, but I think it adds to the charm and it does have a lot of heart at the end of the day. A lot better than expected. This one might surprise you.

If stalkers and slight hints of zoophilia don't creep you out too much, it's watchable, but it takes a lot of time to get enjoyable. But it still has severe tonal issues.

Leads are a bit too mopey for something I was expecting to be a cutesy fantasy. Also if you reverse the genders, this movie would be metooed to hecks. (Girl semi-literally CATfishing a guy's affection) I personally don't have issues with the girl hanging out in the bedroom of the guy under assumed seemingly harmless fursona, but what I find incredibly hard to believe, is that the guy did not slap the monkey or pick his nose ONCE.

I kinda found Muge peppy to the point of annoyingness and was weirded out by how it constantly seemed Hinode was about to fuck his cat. But outside of that the movie has a ton of visual and tonal and fantastical charm. It balances its real world teen romance elements and magical elements well, and the Cat Island setting of the finale is just so excellently... Japanese. Like, a movie containing that setting would just never come out of any other country.

Muge is an endearing protagonist, but the central conceit is never nearly as engaging as what surrounds it: teen romance and the cat mask fell flat and left me wanting more friendship and exploration of Muge's relationship with her family. A charming but uneven film that never really hits home.
