A Traveler's Needs

HSS is such an idiosyncratic filmmaker. Thought I knew what this was about halfway through then it lost me again but I love the effect Iris has on people even when she’s not around. Huppert and HSS is a combo no-one could have seen coming but it pays off in a fascinating way.

A mini melodrama in which Isabelle Huppert takes advantage of unsuspecting South Koreans as she befriends a young man with 'mummy issues'.

Fixed angles, long shots, very little music, a lot of dialogue. A Traveler's Needs gives us an intimate look at the tragicomic life of a traveler. It portrays people and their behaviors that we know nothing about, whose lives intersect at some point. It's pretty fun.
