Exquisitely rendered with a fine touch in its comedy as well as its drama. Its only misstep is in its sympathy-montage for the imprisoned nobles near the end; otherwise, it's a moving and evocative adaptation. Ronald Colman is incredible as Sydney Carton.

A strong performance from Colman injects the film with life and gravitas. The rest of the film lags a bit in comparison, but is still quite good as it is carried along by the solid story from Dickens and several likable side characters. The last twenty minutes or so are excellent, with copious amounts of Colman and the girlfight starring Edna May Oliver.

This isn't how I remember the book, but it works really well on its own merits. Really good pacing, some very good visuals and superb characterizations. Ronald Colman gives quite the performance.

Prodüksiyon -hele yılına göre- bayağı iyi aslında ama devrim ve halk karşıtı tutumu hoşuma gitmedi. eserin orijinali böyle midir bilmiyorum, okumadım

Excellent work from Colman in a decent adaptation. And a bit of trivia for you guys: Jacques Tourneur and Val Lewton cooperated on the second unit footage depicting the storming of the Bastille.

Magnificent adaptation of Charles Dickens tale! The best thing about this is the obnoxious villains on both sides of the fence. Basil Rathbone, Blanche Yurka and Lucille La Verne were easy to love-to-hate! And of the good guys it's Ronald Colman who takes the spotlight whenever the camera is on him using his 'tired-of-life' eyes to attract you to him and his inner (lack-of) soul. The visual aspect of the film was grand and detailed, on par with the other major productions of the year.

Proof that an effective trim of a Dickens novel is sometimes all that is needed. Careful and lavish production by Mr. Selznick and a cast of most adequate performers do the rest.

A very compelling story, populated by memorable, likable characters, graced with intriguing drama, and commenting on the cruelty and injustice perpetuated by both sides of the French Revolution. Some characterizations and flourishes are a bit too much but for the most part it's a rock solid film, easily watchable and quite enjoyable. Excellent production value and strong performances. It made me want to read the novel, which is perhaps the finest thing an adaptation can accomplish.
