A Spring for the Thirsty

1965
Drama
1h 10m
An old, lonely man who lives next to a now rarely used well reflects on his life: on his family and also the people who would visit to take water from his well. He seems to see the past in nostalgic terms and the present as something far more grim and hopeless and so goes about building a coffin for himself. (Summary by AutumnLily)

I found it a bit hard to engage with in some regards (I'm not entirely sure why, though I think it may be because as much as I love experimental cinema I can't help but find the attempt to play a narrative in such a formalist manner a bit off-putting). Nonetheless it's a very beautiful piece of filmmaking and I love some of the surreal imagery conjured up by the extremely high contrast cinematography.
