A Simple Life

Saw this at the Toronto Film Festival and anxiously awaiting a North American release on bluray or DVD. An emotional film that won Deanie Ip the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival this past year. Very well-paced with complex characters who you fully believe in every aspect. It's the little moments between the two that solidified this one for me. I must seek out more of Ann Hui's films!

Beautiful and rejuvenating, quite similar to Yi Yi.

Deannie Yip was charming.

A movie packed to the brim with food and kindness.

A lovely and exquisite portrait of how kindness and affection combats that ever creeping bleakness of the human condition that can threaten to envelop anyone of us.

Absolutely moving, but understated rather than overblown. The two leads are great, and so are the direction and cinematography.

Wonderful chemistry between the leads makes this film straightforward yet deeply moving.
