Hot on the heels of the most hilarious "Ted" MacFarlane throws out a western comedy. I think MacFarlane had experienced so much fan support in all his projects by this point that he thought he was immune to failure. There's one or two good jokes, like the guy getting crushed by the giant ice cube, but it's just not up to his standard. Not to mention that MacFarlane has a good voice, but the guy looks kinda funny and doesn't lend himself to live acting very well.

One day, I microwaved a Philly cheese steak flavored Hot Pocket® and took a bite before it sufficiently cooled. As a result, I burned my tongue and found I couldn't taste anything. Fortunately, the timing was perfect because my brother wanted to watch "A Million Ways to Die in the West". Since it would be a few hours before I could appreciate good taste again, I joined him.

I don't find Seth MacFarlane funny. But at least he's trying, and his humor is juvenile but never mean-spirited or dumbing as is the case with certain other comedic "auteurs" (Adam Sandler et al). The plot structure is terrible (if at all) and the result is a 2 hour film that feels 1 hour too long. Fans of MacFarlane's other work will probably enjoy this. I'm not and I didn't. Fair play to him though. I have a soft spot for westerns so I was able to not hate this film.

Four-fifths of the way through the movie Seth MacFarlane is hiding from the bad guys by lying down amidst his sheep herd. He looks up and watches as a sheep's penis pisses all over his face. This is a metaphor. His face is the audience, the piss is the movie, and Seth MacFarlane is the sheep's penis.

It trys a little too hard at times and the jokes are maybe 60% hit 40% miss but it's weird enough and funny enough to be a fun watch. It definitely achieves what it set out to do, if you dont like that type of humour then I dont know why you're watching this to begin with.

It's not always funny and he throws a lot of stuff at the wall hoping it will stick but I definitely got more laughs than not. It obviously helps if you are a fan of MacFarlane's humor (which many outspoken people seem to not be). The bar fight scene had me in stitches.

MacFarlene is certainly no leading man. His large, round, overly smooth face is a deeply unpleasant watch, particuarly in combination with his rudimentary acting ability. In a movie that's a good 20 minutes too long this is only amplified! The story and structure of the film itself is scattershot and uneven, and many jokes (but not all I will admit) fall flat, and worse some reek of a desperation to find a laugh. That said I didn't hate it, I just don't want to see it ever again.

Certainly no masterpiece but I don't understand the vitriol for this film. I would assume people seeing the film would know who Seth MacFarlane is , and his style of humor, but apparently not. For those that are familiar and enjoy it, you will most likely be entertained. The strange mix of observational humor, pop culture and lowbrow comedy works well at times. It is a bit overlong and a few of the jokes fall flat but I laughed fairly often.

The point of doing a comedy is to make people laugh! The more you laugh the better the comedy is. I don't think anything else matters really. Sure the story was stupid and not all the jokes were good but the fact that i laughed out loud more then 10 times makes this a pretty funny movie. Macfarlane is a funny guy! I actually said to my gf at the very end: here comes Jamie fox before I saw his face!

A couple of painfully forced cameos and the toilet humour really bring the film down. Also, Seth McFarlane isn't much of a live-action actor. He should stick to voice acting. At least Charlize Theron still looks stunning...

Blah. Seth has this habit of working on extremes. Sometimes he takes it too far and it reeks of trying too hard. Unfortunately, while Ted worked well because of this, A Million Ways was hard to sit through, watching them try to push the envelope over and over again just got tiring. The writing was just not solid, the jokes were not setup well, and even the delivery was just cheesy and stupid sometimes. There were a few laughs, but not even Liam Neeson's butt could save this.

The last twenty minutes actually weren't all that bad. It's a shame about the 96 minutes before that. MacFarlane is a competent director, but he's not a competent leading actor. Especially when so much of his dialogue is stilted, "Family Guy"-esque speeches. Otherwise, you can see why some of this stuff SHOULD be funny, but the writing style and the underwhelming cast can't sell a joke to save their lives.

A Million Ways to Die in the West has very little plot, very little in terms of characters, and is very rarely funny. It has a couple of good gags and jokes, but for most of its absurdly long running time, it's boring and unfunny. The only character that gets anything to do is our lead, but he's played by the worst actor in the cast. The cameos are funny and some of the potshots the film takes at Westerns are clever, but there are about 15 minutes of good film in this 116-minute endeavor.

I'd seen the poor reviews for this, but I love toilet humor and thought "BASEketball got canned by reviewers too, and that was fucking hilarious", so I decided to see it on a whim. Well....I wish I hadn't. It's not offensively horrible, it's just a bland motherfucker of a movie. I'm a pretty easy mark as far as laughs go, and I wasn't laughing hysterically at any point in this flick. I don't expect tons from Seth McFarlane, but this is still a disappointment. Very very generic.

Painfully unfunny shit which pretends to have some insightful criticism of the glorification of the old west while having the most superficial perspective of it; and worse yet, it also poses as a parody without actually knowing anything about the genre. In practice, it's a dime a dozen 00's era comedy way past expiration of those trends and even on those standards Seth McFarlene manages to be far more insufferable and unfunny even when compared to the worst of his peers.

Oh my God, why am I laughing at this? This is so stupid. Seth MacFarlane has such a punchable face. The main story-arcs are predictable. Yet some of these jokes are actually clever, playing with anachronisms, clichés and expectations; and if you don't take it too seriously, it's...enjoyable?

I gotta say that the mass hatred for this flick kind of mystifies me. I generally do not like Seth MacFarlane and expected to dislike this due to massive critical dump levelled against it. I sort of like it. McFarlane landed about 60% of the jokes in this film for me. That's hardly comic gold, but it's not a disaster either. I frequently laughed. I also frequently didn't. It's not devoid of a bunch of hit-and-miss jokes or the obligatory quality dip/ dose of cheesiness towards the end, but "A Million Ways to Die in the West" hits the spot more often than not, and uproariously so. The laughs-per-minute ratio is pretty high for at least two-thirds of the movie, the cast is great and the anachronistic take on the Wild West works wonders, giving the story a charming personality of its own. Highly enjoyable stuff.

If Charlize Theron was not in this movie, I would not have finished it. There were some great moments in this movie. However, it was too long for its own good. My biggest problem was the main character. He constantly acted like he was better than everyone else, and this smugness made him extremely unlikeable. The hat full of shit and sex jokes fail to impress (the recurring chaste prostitute gag aside), but the abundance of casual f-bombs and the million ways to die-schtick together make for a fun parody of the typically brooding Western genre that looks great to boot. Unfortunately, the too-long story (a point for being unexpectedly so, I suppose) and its lead (MacFarlane is more like a comedian on set than an actual character) never really feel like anything more than empty vehicles for the humour.

Probably only about 9 ways to die in the west... This film has a fun title, but I was a little underwhelmed by the whole experience. First off, I think Seth MacFarlane should stick to voice-acting. He just doesn't have the whole acting thing down. Within the first few minutes of the film, I found myself cringing when MacFarlane was trying to show his "I love you face" to Amada Seyfried and it looked like he was having stomach trouble ala Kristen Stewart...

First time round I switched off after 10 mins, not being a big fan of MacFarlane's work. But on a second attempt to watch (with a few beers) it kinda clicked for me. His humour may be low-brow, but it's never cruel or mean-spirited. There's some genuinely funny cameos and pastiche of Western movies among a lot of hit-and-miss humour. Removing the stuff that fell flat and reducing the runtime by 30 mins could have made this a great comedy rather than an average one.
