Someone once told me that i rate french films higher than american films - of course I do. They're much more artistic. They have genuine artistic vision from the offset. Sometimes it's at the expense of the plot, but I say "hell with plots" - it's for the proletariat anyway.

Not your typical romance. It's stylish but I wasn't impressed with the experimental touches. There are some pretty shots, to be sure, and a nice music video-ish sequence near the end but, overall, I didn't get caught up in the story, probably because there is so little plot.

Over-rated. A haunting theme song, subdued performances and great cinematography. That's about it.

I remember this as almost a music video of a romantic relationship. (Good music and Aimee is beautiful). Still, I remember wanting a little more substance to the relationship.

The story is pretty flat but the acting and the music especially work really well. Style is everything in this movie and the cinematography is amazing. Interesting piece of film history - check it out.

Take two attractive people, dress them in beautiful coats, then shoot a lot of closeups with a magnificent soundtrack... et voila! Aesthetically sumptuous, it struts with the air of a cult classic - but is it all fur coat and no knickers? The plot is unremarkable, the characters underdeveloped. And yet the story works. Simple, but effective.

Where 'Rendez-vous' told an exhilarating love story through Lelouch's love for racing, this film aims for a similar sensibility only the characters' relationship (told mostly through jarring music montages) feels shoehorned for dramatic purposes. But as the film reached its conclusion, I felt the elements for a great film were all there, only they didn't coalesce in a satisfying way. I also have to forgive Paul Schrader for stealing De Palma’s ending, because the latter stole it from Lelouch.

Some of it is okay, I guess. Some of it is boring.

A simple and charming romance that is more impressive for its creative aesthetics than for its plot.

Viewed June 28, 2014. It's extremely stylish and has the easygoing charm of the New Wave, but I was still pretty underwhelmed by it. There just isn't much to it.

A whole lot of style, but very scant in substance. But then again, when you can gaze upon the beauty of Anouk Aimee for 90 plus minutes, it makes it worth while.

Absolutely fantastic stuff that really uses the medium to do things that wouldn't be possible in a book or play. It's playful and romantic and brutally honest without being cynical. It reminded me a bit of Before Sunrise/Sunset, only even better, a little less talky but more creative and just as emotionally resonant. Really, I just loved the tone it struck and it's magnificently executed.

A relatively straightforward romance, but a wonderful soundtrack, nice use of quick-cuts and flashbacks, and a lot of scenes without dialogue gave the film that very welcome stylish touch.

Absolutely charming. Aimee and Trintignant are too of cinema's finest performers and they are perfect here. Aimee is probably also possibly the most attractive woman to ever live.

Lacks a bit of depth and stucture in terms of the plot, but is very pretty and the music is great.

When something's not serious, we say it's like a film. Why aren't films taken seriously, do you think?

A somewhat conventional romance, but lovely and moving nonetheless. Trintignant and Aimée are both charming and genuine, although I generally don't like romance movies about ridiculously attractive people. What really made this movie special to me was the fantastic music... I just wish the lyrics had been subtitled.
