The filmmaker may believe that he is raising epistemological questions about how the line between fact and fiction blurs when the camera appears, but such reflections don’t change the fact that everything here turns increasingly into a persecution, one intensified by the camera and by such ruminations. In fact, the aimless wandering of this investigation tends to make one believe, despite oneself, that these things are better left to real professionals working for real institutional authorities.

There's a moment where Imamura reveals all his cinematic cards, and it's a full fucking house. A true testament to Film, the Human Condition, and most importantly, how they Intersect.
