An older teen may enjoy the show but since suicide it featured it could be triggering for them. My husband enjoyed the movie far more then I did. I was pretty bored with it. Great acting though.

Tom Hanks' version of Gran Torino. But it doesn't work nearly as well. They will get you to cry or at least tear up multiple times, but that's about all. I'm sure the original is better.

Difficult. While the movie is deliberately setup to invoke a certain set of emotions, I found the approach heartfelt.

A disgraceful lowpoint in the career of Tom Hanks that will be hard for me to disassociate him from, probably ever. I took 24 hours to let the first wave of emotion and disgust pass, but it hasn't worked. This is in the top 3 worst and most horrible movies i have EVER seen

A major fun part of this film was trying to work out what events would transpire to thwart Ottos suicide attempts. If you are a member of tthe "grumpy old man" club ( in whose number I count myself ) this was a lovely film, which warmed the cockles of ones heart. The acting was uniformly sublime, but particularly from Hanks, Treviño and Keller, who are endearing screen presences. I must admit, I wasnt bothered about watching this film, but so glad I did ... it made me smile, laugh and cry.

It is goofier than the original and feels more shallow. I had a hard time getting into this one as most of the supporting cast was pretty bad and nothing felt real.

It hard to rate anything with Tom Hanks as low as 65, but the theme of this movie was considerably less than desirable. Performances were excellent, and it became more engaging as it proceeded. Worth watching.

Did we need an American remake? Fuck no! And the fact that they changed the original story makes it even worse

"A Man Called Otto" eschews action and adventure for a deeply engaging story centered around a solitary man and his community. The exceptional acting and script effortlessly draw you into the tale. Rather than relying on physical activity to captivate, the film masterfully evokes emotion, moving its audience profoundly.

Sometimes I'm convinced this site is full of heartless film snobs. A Man Called Otto doesn't break any new ground, but it's a kind of throwback to buoyant optimism that is much needed these days. Tom Hanks embodies the heart of a man whose past is so burdened with tragedy that he has shut himself away. Mariana Trevino deserves special mention in an excellent supporting role. It's a simple and small story that hits the heart in the right places.

I love this film but then I'm a bit biased in as much as I loved the novel its based on and I enjoyed the original, Scandinavian film adaptation too. I thought Tom Hanks did a great job and was perfectly chosen to play the titular role. The story this film tells is poignant to me, the whole idea of Otto seeming to the outside to be a rather antisocial, grumpy so-and-so when in reality his past is getting to him and we see a number of flashbacks that put things in perspective. Well worth seeing.

A Man Called Otto surprised me with its profound storytelling and compelling characters. This film surpassed my expectations, delving into themes of identity, memory, and relationships. The performances were outstanding, the visuals were stunning, and the film left a lasting impact. Highly recommended for those seeking a thought-provoking experience.

While watching this, I was reminded of my own grandfather, who was coincidentally named Otto...though grandma lived to the ripe old age of 101, and was ornery as all hell. Why didn't you love me, grandma?

I didn't expect this to be good, but it surprised me in the ways it was not good. The ads promise a wacky comedy about an elderly curmudgeon (and it's not NOT that), but it's actually much worse: weirdly dark emotional pabulum that validates the stubbornness, inflexibility, and weird grievances of men of a certain age. A very annoying film. Thank you, Mariana Treviño, for bringing your light anyway.

I really liked the Swedish original, and this American remake with Tom Hanks feels true its Scandinavian roots and sensibilities to be on equal footing with En man som heter Ove (2015). Ove was probable funnier, but Otto was a stronger emotionally.

"A well-told if conventional tale of a curmudgeonly old man whose young, but different, new neighbour chips away at his crusty outer shell to reveal a slightly less jaded old man." That was my review for the original Swedish version and it largely holds true for this adaptation. There seems to be less emphasis on foreign culture, and the people encountered seem more outwardly idiotic. Treviño & Hanks are good, though I pictured Harrison Ford every time I heard Hanks voice.

Loose on actual substance, does a good job of making the viewer sad. Hanks entirely holds it together with his nuanced and sizeable performance.

This is one of those movies that want to make you feel shit, and by golly, it's going to do whatever the hell it takes. This is sometimes a problem as it cycles through the issues du jour, and occasionally does so poorly. And it could have ended about 4 times but kept going. But the thing is, I did feel the shit they wanted. Hanks makes this grump authentic and likable despite not being likable for most of the movie, and the way the people interact is charming. It's good but not substantial.

Pushing an 85. Colour me shocked - stupidly - that Tom Hanks completely destroyed my expectations for this, in all the best possible ways. The book this is based on is an all-time classic from a great talent, and this adaptation lives up to that reputation in a way that few other adaptations do. Hanks is, once again, a believable powerhouse of a performer, crafting his sympathetic heel Otto masterfully, and this is great work from Marc Forster; arguably his best since "Stranger Than Fiction".
