There are tonal issues, but the comedy sequences deliver great laughs and the tenser sequences offer some genuine scares; Simon Pegg is convincingly paranoid

Pegg is super convincing as the paranoid half-mad dirty recluse. His character is written extremely well, and despite being what in reality would be a totally unrelatable person, pegg makes him a sympathetic protaganist. His adventures move forward well, going outside to the landromat really feels like the breakthrough it should be for the character. The film goes a bit scatterbrained by the time the credits roll. Its not enough to derail it, but it doesnt feel...complete somehow bc of it

It's not great, but it's not bad either. Simon Pegg puts together an amazing and believable performance and honestly one of the best I've seen from him outside the grasp of Edgar Wright. Though that's the problem. It's just not as humorous or as clever as anything that the Pegg-Wright combo puts out.

This one just misses. It carries the feel of Edgar Wright movie if it had sex with a Wes Anderson movie and they birthed a script that was written and directed by a musician and son of Haley Mills. Which I guess makes sense, cause it is just that. Pegg is very good but there just isn't enough for him to work with, so his performance and the soundtrack are the two highlights here.

I appreciate what they tried to do. Not as successful as some of the other movies, but certainly has it's moments and pegg is great playing a new style of role. Picks up a lot of steam as it goes on.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything gives the distinct impression that it was written by a bored screenwriter doing his laundry. Sometimes a movie is too quirky for its own good. Pegg's narration is a little overbearing, and his performance, while good, was neither comedic enough nor dramatic/convincing/real enough to work for me.

sometimes funny, overall unremarkable: can't remember the ending

This movie has a highly original script. There are several original moments in this film. Simon Pegg is great in the lead role as he really has to carry this whole story. I would recommend this original movie.

OK I guess. Started out pretty slow, but I managed to get a few laughs after about the 20 minute mark. Pegg's performance definitely carried this.

Has a lot of heart. Not the funniest comedy, but a great story.

Its pacing is a bit off, but I give it points for being highly original and having some great cinematography. Pegg did about as well as anyone could in that role. He honestly felt paranoid. The last third was brilliant, but otherwise there just wasn't enough in the first two thirds of the film to make it anything other than ok.

Original, visually stunning, lots of fun. The first act is just perfect (minus the rapping).

Essentially an urban fairytale with swearing and serial killers, you can see what they were trying to do with this one... if only they'd pulled it off. Raises a few chuckles but is by and large bland and unfunny, meaning scenes drag interminably and making the whole thing a real chore to sit through. The soundtrack is easily the best thing about it, which considering it was written and directed by a musician is hardly surprising.

Loved it. Only learned of it by chance, reading about Kula Shaker in passing, which led me to Crispian Mills and the mention that he had directed this film starring Simon Pegg. I'm glad he starred in it, because otherwise I wouldn't have watched it, and would've missed out on a wonderful, silly, weirdly beautiful film. The narration and animation bits, and overall tone reminded me a little bit of Tim Burton's "Vincent". So sad that apparently not many people appreciate this little gem.

Simon Pegg is brilliant as always! Although I didn't quite enjoy how the events played out, everything else compensated that - the camera work, the directing, the rap!
