A Cry in the Dark

Fascinating and ahead of its time in portraying the litigation of justice through media and culture, and in Streep's defiant performance.

Very well told story about this controversial hiccup in Australian crime history, supported terrifically by the powerful acting from Streep and Neill (one of his best). The gossip scenes, although seem a bit forced, are quite astonishing to see in this film, giving it a very national scope -- and I don't think I've seen a film that influences misanthropy so much. This is a pretty sad film on mainstream mistrust and the utmost endurance needed to survive it.

Docu-soapy feature about a woman who couldn't have been less popular if she had claimed that har baby had been eaten by jews instead of dingos. Hearing her (and her husbands) side of the story would probably be quite interesting if you had lived in Australia in those days and had followed the media-hoopla but I felt myself struggling with and failing to give a fuck. Schepisis flimsy style and the crass Golan/Globus (!) production values don't help.

Called "Evil angels" here in Australia, Meryl streep's attempt at an aussie accent is utterly hysterical, and worth the price of a renatl alone.
