Basically a retread of the first movie, in which the evil Tree Spirit is back with yet another ghost played by Joey Wong. The Swordsman Yen and Leslie Cheung characters are replaced by a Buddhist Abbot and disciple (Tony Leung). Jacky Cheung also pops up again, this time as a money-grabbing swordsman with a neat bag of tricks. (imdb)

This third entry could have been a case of “seen it before” since its story is a rehash, but it manages to be enough of its own thing that I never got bored. It’s still ridiculous, it’s still funny—it ends with the heroes literally fighting a haunted house come to life—Joey Wang is still hot(and has hilarious chemistry with Tony Leung). It's got less effects but they look amazing and it blends its genres well, making it a good final entry into the series.

Sticks the landing for a solid trilogy.

I fell upon it by accident and only later found out it was the third, a matter I deduced thanks to the presence of Tony Leung. I haven't spent hours mantisizing about him in In the Mood for Love just to let him float by on high wires unappreciated. So then, what happens now? I haven't seen the original and I really liked this. Do I lose my hipster card? Do I get a free membership to the hipster headquarters, but ironically?

The third release of Chinese Ghost Stories did not reach the heights of first two movies. The ghost are still powerful and fight scenes enjoyable.
