Extremely early Griffith comedy (as in, this is one of his first dozen things directed). Comedy never really was his thing, and he doesn't seem to have put much work into this compared to the other early pictures. All the intentional overacting's cute though, in a silly sort of way.

Holy shit, a D.W. Griffith movie that isn't racist! I realize the guy is basically the father of cinema but he did make some terrible movies. This one is average and I have no idea what kind of thieves existed in 1908 but if one was dancing like the one in this movie today, they would get pwned.
