A Boy Called Christmas

A bit uneven with a mixture of good/bad performances, but lifted by Sally Hawkins randomly disappearing into floor cavities and a bit of festive leeway.

W2E1P1S0V1M1A1R1. Pretty baffling how badly they screwed up a half-decent premise and star studded cast. Even the "Christmas Cheer" is like, "this one kid is a pretty good person; so let's all just focus on that and ignore everything else that's a whole lot less cheery!"

While it might not have anything new under the sun, it offers just enough Christmas cheer to pass the time.

A Boy Called Christmas (2021) almost finds that Christmas magic. It was so close. But thanks to modern techniques the presentation ended-up feeling ho-ho-hollow.

A wholesome and magic-filled Christmas movie, enjoyable over a cup of hot cocoa. While it might be somewhat predictable, the fantasy and at times the story telling make up for that.

Comic-relief animal companion had some good lines, but had no reason to exist in the movie, and the Tiny Tina–influenced character was funnier.

A bit of magic, a few laughs, a couple of thrills. A solid Christmas family adventure.

This film looks really good with a lot of pleasing visuals. However the story drags during numerous times in this movie. The cast does a good job but they ultimately can't make up for a boring script. Overall this movie is disappointing.

This is a very entertaining and enjoyable film that's quite family friendly and features a decent cast including Jim Broadbent, Maggie Smith, Toby Jones and Sally Hawkins. It features some decent visual effects and good cinematography of a snow covered landscape. It does well at portraying childlike fascination with myths/folk tales and the power of magic, that sort of seasonal stuff. A nice festive film, I would recommend this, yes.

A strong cast and surprisingly good production values help make A Boy Called Christmas slightly more watchable, but the film can't escape its predictable plot. Ignoring the questionable moral values (it is Christmas after all), the film seems intent on manufacturing emotions with noticeable swells of the score; a cheap and manipulative trick when done so poorly. It's another Christmas film that equates the season with trauma and finding the cheer beyond it, but it'll be forgotten by January.

Okay for a low-budget family movie. The bad is that it is relentlessly emotional and the main character is almost always on the edge of tears. The good is Sally Hawkins playing a completely unhinged villain. I would like to see her in a MCU movie, maybe playing Gorr the God Butcher.

Come film non è esattamente il top, molto ingenuo e prevedibile... però è pieno zeppo di buoni sentimenti e magia natalizia, non si può non amarlo.

A magical fantasy tale of the origin of Santa. The end was kind of sudden and forced, but that's OK as the rest of the movie flowed fairly well. As of this writing, it's my favorite new Christmas movie released in my country during 2021.
