Like Room 237 but actually smart and not rampantly reaching for an argument out of thin air

What we learn from this documentary, if we didn't already know it: Hitchcock was good at making us see things he didn't film; Psycho was a perfect storm of doing the right thing at the right time; I love hearing editors nerd out about editing; I'm less interested in watching Elijah Wood watching a movie; Everyone tries to say as little as possible about the remake; Digital black and white with modern make-up looks horrible and is a bad gimmick that just makes the 60-year-old movie look better.

A variety of interesting people show up and say interesting things about Psycho's shower scene; others are less interesting. The analysis doesn't go very deep, which I guess keeps it accessible, and some of the technical observations about the scene were likeably educational. Perhaps a bit on the slight side, but compelling, informative, and entertaining.

An exhaustive overview of this 52 second movie scene - it just about fully analyses it, though with the amount of historical, cultural, and societal context, that sort of analysis could've been endless. At once, this doco is invigorating yet tiring for movie fans, as it's a celebration of the impact films can have (or did have), though this would probably work better with bigger Psycho fans than myself.

A decent documentary that really isn't necessary in this day and age.

Just saw "Psycho" on the big screen today and then watched this right after (I've seen "Psycho" and most other Hitchcock many times before since I was a kid). It had some insights but wasn't as rewarding as I had hoped.

A worthwhile watch and an easy recommendation.

Superb, exhaustive documentary on the iconic shower scene distinguishes itself from the typical 'Making Of' by it's clever assemblage of archival footage, and inclusive array of talking heads, from first hand on-the-set accounts (Leigh's body double, a fascinating Renfri) right through to obsessed fans (Wood and crew) who all add insightful texture and context. A must-see, even if you're already knowledgeable about PSYCHO. Highlight: Murch's second-by-second call during the 'meat' of the scene.
