This was a martial arts version of Run Lola Run. I enjoyed this movie more as it went on and even though it was fairly predictable I was entertaining throughout and I enjoyed the hard-hitting fights and stunts.

For such a dumb plot, it actually produces plenty of cool fight scenes, and even the farfetched-on-paper catalyst ends up offering a nice emotional payoff at the end.

It's certainly never boring because even before the rush starts, it's plotted and shot in a high-energy way. Sakraya put in a really good performance that will, unfortunately, be completely forgotten at the end of the year, handling physicality while being convincing emotionally. I don't love this, mostly because there are some stupid plot-related decisions and an unnecessary "just in time" trope. And while the MMA-inspired fighting is entertaining, it's not A-tier, at its best it's B-tier.

It's straightforward and violent and stars a young, buff Robert De Niro with pleasantly nuanced screen presence - what's not to love? (I would also forgive my ex if he brought me a tiny kitten named Onion.)
