When it comes to attractive pieces of wood, Ryan Phillippe fits somewhere between Channing Tatum and the late Paul Walker.

(Watched the Director’s Cut, which is apparently a massive improvement) Pretty decent film that serves as somewhat of a time capsule by having so many 90’s stars when they were getting popular. Also features a young Mark Ruffalo before he was anybody. Nothing particularly memorable, but fairly entertaining.

I'm pretty indifferent to this film. It's not great but I don't hate it either. It's informative and captures its subject well. It's somewhat interesting to watch Mike Myers star in a mostly non-comedic role, which he actually plays fairly well. He should pursue drama more often. The rest of the performances are mostly forgettable, but you could easily argue that this fact is central to the story.

Mark Christopher's almost miraculously salvaged cut doesn't quite live up to Elvis Mitchell's rhapsodic description of DESIGN FOR LIVING meets AMERICAN GRAFFITI--it's immersive and impressively textured but surprisingly limp on a scene-by-scene basis and there are basically no laughs. Still, recommended for anyone interested in NYC club history or the Fear City-era generally, and Mike Myers is seriously great as Rubell. (& the disco'd Lightfoot shoulda won the Oscar somehow)

Actually a much better movie than I expected. The performances are good and the story is fairly engrossing. I would've liked more focus or development on the allure of the nightclub, but I can live without it.

I thought it was kind of cool when I was 12 because of all the debauchery. Beyond that, it's a pretty mediocre film that does little more than sort of capture an interesting time and place.

nice theme, but the script could be better.

Didn't give a shit about the main characters, it should have centered entirely on Rubell. At least I knew what I was getting into and just had it on in the background while doing other stuff.

Kinda a muddled mess of a movie with a large cast of recognizable actors. Mike Myers is the only thing that will stand the test of time, this being such a departure from what he was known for.

"Sanitised and dramatically inept retelling of the history of one of the great sleazy success (and failure) stories. Best head out to a nightclub instead."

Neat to see Mike Myers be serious, but it can't save the movie. it's not that it's fundamentally THAT weak, it's just lightweight--it's a drama about a kid who wants to be in a scene and who gets rewarded, big time for getting just what he wants. Kudos to Mark Christopher, and thanks, for all the beefcake in this, but otherwise the only thing that made this really worth watching was the scenes where Shane is hanging out with his old buddies--holy crap, it took me a bit to recognize those actors.

Entertaining while on TV, but not a movie to seek out for itself, it's quite well done, if excessive and the excessiveness is what drags the film down.

While Mike Myers shines as Steve Rubell, the rest is plain eye candy (kinda like the real thing really), and the ending is just lame, a gratuitous film clip promoting the single from it... toe knee :-)

I think my brain must have been completely open & receptive, because I'm not thinking this is an amazing movie so much as an amazing subject. A sortof whetting of the appetite for wondering what it really was like in this house of excess, i actually recall stories about it...but anyway, the movie's ok too.

Neve Campbell, who I love, is beautiful in this movie, but there's nothing else that I can say for it besides that.
