Kevin Costner was satisfying in the dual role as a tough but sick CIA hitman & devoted father. Hailee Steinfeld was cute & adorable as the bratty teenager. Amber Heard was an unconvincing CIA boss, but had one really great line "I'm everybody's type". No kidding! Connie Nielsen was beautiful but underused. Several sweet & humorous moments. Completely underrated. Tense action, romance, humor, car chases, fights, gun battles & a fast paced. A few plot holes in the story, but better than expected.

Tried to be funny - wasn't. Tried to be a thriller - I never felt the excitement. Tried to be a family drama - waaaaay too many clichés. Choose a genre!! And I hated that "Vivi" figure!! Kevin is watchable - so Okay.

A very frustrating movie that has potential buried somewhere in the script, albeit very deep. The biggest problem here is the tone, which goes from place to place, and is therefore never actually where it should be. It has elements of a thriller, a drama and a comedy, not unlike Besson's best scripts, but the crucial difference is that in 3 Days to Kill, these elements never properly blend, making this movie an annoying and incoherent mess.

3 Days to Kill is a film that I'm happy to report isn't terrible. It could have been disastrous. It's mostly just too dumb and convenient to be of much consequence. It's funny, dramatic, and I suppose action-packed enough to hold most people's attention. It will make for superb background noise once it hits home video. The actors are game, it's rarely dull, and I can't see it getting too many people upset. Its highlights come more from the comedic and dramatic side than the action.

McG is a shit head. The tone of this film is so confused that it infuriates the viewer with its family drama/comedy/Costner is a murdering psychopath cluster-fuck. Some decent set pieces, I'll give it that.

didn't hate all of it. it's definitely brimming with an indefinite amount of clichés, some of them even miraculously working. some. once i got past the point of taking anything as a serious approach to filmmaking, i even liked some of the humor. some. so if you should ever have 2 hours to kill, there's some worse movies out there to do it with. some.

Poor Kevin Costner, the only good thing in a really shitty (and, at times, incredibly schmaltzy) pic.

It's pretty corny, although both the action sequences and family drama seem to work. Unfortunately, the pacing is way off; way too much time spent on the two comparison families without any payoff. Plus, everything about the cure was just weird, for no reason. It's a hallucinogen? Ethan always collapses right before a kill? It seemed to be setting something up, and honestly, I would have preferred an idiotic twist over the nothing we got.

While it was good to see Kevin Costner again, I had a lot of problems with this movie: his character, Ethan, was somewhat believable, except how does he go from being barely able to stand up one minute to kicking ass the next? His "boss" was annoying and kept changing her appearance in every scene for no apparent reason; his daughter changes her feelings towards him too easily and too quickly; I could go on, but I'll just summarize it as this: not worth watching.

i enjoyed the first half. despite alot of general stupidity it had a decent opening action scene, humor (esp liked the back and forth between costner and the "informant"), and the father/daughter thing kind of sort of you could pretend worked. but instead of weaving the threads together nicely they just take turns dominating screentime draining the entertainment out of every moment. particularly annoying were the repeated times costner breaks down sick in front of the bad guys

I liked Kevin Costner even if the movie isn't that great. While I was watching it, I had a mix feeling that I wanted not to like this movie, but I was actually enjoying it. The cliche characters and story lines somehow fit in the movie's color over all. I especially like the scene where the main character and his daughter ride bike together. It was beautiful and emotional.

Some of it works, like the ex-CIA agent trying to reconnect with his daughter, but it's mostly a huge mess. Amber Heard's character is so amazingly over the top, she would look out of place in a comedy. It's about as bad as you would expect a movie that Luc Besson and McG both worked on to be.

The most exciting moment of this genre-bending mediocrity? The moment it clicked that the title had a double meaning. "Three days to kill", I thought to myself. "Huh. Why didn't I realise that before? Have mind-numbing action movies conditioned me to lose my perspicacity? Am I shedding IQ points as I sit here? As the superficial sheen of this Kevin Costner weepie-actioner bastard hybrid washes over me, am I sacrificing future cogent insights for two hours of bum-numbing popcorn "entertainment"?"

It only took one ending to kill this movie. I thought for the most part the film was doing well. It had good action sequences, good humor and was flowing along nicely. Then some glaring problems arose. First of all the daughter hating the father for not being around is a very tired plot line. Also, the weird drug he was taking wasn't explained well at all, seemed like it was the opposite of the movie Crank...

I barely know what to say about this... Costner is the only thing that almost made this movie come together, for the most part anyway. Way too many genres for my taste. Is it a family drama? Is it a spy action thriller? Is it a coming of age movie? I DON'T KNOW! One thing I do know; Heard was beyond awful! - Okay

This film covers several genre's which I think is a massive problem. The action and drama sequences are captivating but the comedy isn't really necessary. Amber Heard's character is confusing because she goes from plain Jane to someone out of a porno without explanation within 15 minutes. I think some back story would have helped. Some scenes are ridiculous but as mentioned it does deliver in some areas. There is a good story to be told somewhere here but I think they got this one wrong.

Typical Bessonian actioner filled with melodrama and light sparks of comedy -- and involuntary laughs at Amber every time she steps into frame --, but few spaces for interesting set-pieces by McG -- not that he's capable of doing much, but 3 Days to Kill and his part Crank, part Léon structure required more than what's shown here.

Clumsy comedy-drama masquerading as a thriller. At two hours long it should've been 80 odd minutes and even then that's a stretch. Bad comedy, bad drama, okay action set pieces but it's patchy and uneven with endless cliche and bad maudlin father-daughter crap. Avoid.

...I don't think this is how the CIA works. I hope that the only independent intelligence agency in the U.S. isn't so cornball... and not great at their jobs... and apparently, susceptible to squatters. TEENAGERS KNOW HOW TO HANDSHAKE! I guess this is supposed to also be a comedy? Maybe the family drama is a little undercooked, but there's still good in there. I love Kevin Smith dialogue as much as anybody, but it REALLY doesn't fit here. A floater -- not nearly good, yet not bad enough to hate.

A strange mish mash that works in its own ways. It resembles Léon: The Professional in a way, but it's not nearly as good. No wonder, as the script is partly written by Besson and probably didn't put in as much effort as he did with Léon. The pacing feels off somewhat and the focus on the father-daughter relationship is too strong for its own good. With more action sequences it would have been a better film, but alas, a small budget. Costner is good, so is the soundtrack, McG is... nevermind.

But the film has more the heart of the pretty-but-ruthless Vivi than the wanna-be-better Ethan. This is a slick, chilly, sometimes nonsensical diversion, meant to pepper audiences with action and violence and sensuality. And it makes no apologies for that. When a snooty principal voices her belief that real-life violence can be influenced by "violent images in popular culture," it doesn't read like a sincere speculation. It feels like a dig at those of us who believe just that (pluggedin.com)

I think the way the guy treats bad guys and handles action scenes was interesting, though the emotional parts tended to be drawn out and just too much. It erases the emotional impact of the idea. Same with the "oh no I need vodka" gig, it was a bit too scifi for the rest.

Pretty good film as long as you relax and take it for what it is. Definately has that Besson feel to it even though he wasn't the director. The scenes through France and Serbia look really good and there are some good cat and mouse action. Costner shows that he can still take a role and run with it.

Everything is wrong with this movie. Costner is unconvincing, Amber Heard was clearly in some crazy/dazed phase, same as Haylee Steinfeld (mass hysteria maybe). Directionless, emotionless piece of garbage is that movie and i love Costner movies and even some of Bessons. This is as bad as Lucy (if you liked this you will like this too)

Besson has written far better movies. It's also a little baffling to see that someone justified a assassin juggling a family life type movie, We've seen enough already, and it's getting stale. I guess I'm not the only one who thinks so, given the relatively poor reception. Nothing new here, not much interesting, and it's only marginally entertaining.

I don't know what I was expecting but this wasn't it and I mean that in a good way. The story is pretty basic and most of the cast are generic and uninteresting. Amber Heard is a standout but not in a good way, she was atrocious however Kevin Costner was amazing and he made this movie so much more than it would otherwise have been. The other stand out was Marc Andréoni who was the perfect foil and brought comic relief without ruining or cheapening his character.
