First rate action thriller brings depth and resonance to a simple high concept with its particulars - Willis as a broken soul has rarely been better; Def/Bey starts masked as a tamped down Chris Tucker clone, gradually revealing a scared and traumatised face, and Morse plays the slimeball heavy to perfection. A reminder that Donner (in what's likely his swansong) can capture the claustrophobic feel of urban violence better than most directors. Minor in-the-moment implausibilities are forgivable.

Makes me wonder if Mos Def's name is actually short for 'mostly deaf,' which is what I was after having to listen to his whiny voice for 90 minutes. Protip for those considering stealing a city bus: they don't handle as easily as Richard Donner would have you believe.

Has a certain amount of potential, but it wastes it. The downplayed action adds realism, but it also adds boredom. The constant talking gets really annoying, particularly when Mos Def is doing 90% of it, and playing the most annoying character of all time. It has some good ideas, but it winds up discarding them in favor of becoming an incredibly regular and mediocre film. This film is actually completely unnecessary.

Pretty much just a run of the mill thriller. There's nothing groundbreaking about it in any way, shape or form. Bruce Willis is good enough but Mos Def is... well his character's mannerisms are just quite annoying. There's just nothing great about it but there's nothing bad about it either.

"For a New York cop and his witness, the distance between life and death just got very short." Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is a burnt-out detective not known for his subtle methods. His assignment is to escort important witness (Mos Def) from the police station to court. The distance over which this must take place is 16 blocks. On the way, Mosley finds out that this man will testify against his corrupt colleagues & that entire New York police force will do everything they can to get rid of him.

Although I feel like this is something I would normally dislike, something about this has stuck out in my mind. Maybe it is the occasional slow pace and attempts to humanize everyone that makes this more memorable than it should be.

16 Blocks is a really good action crime movie. The movie has enough twists to keep the viewer interested throughout. This movie does a good job of representing the good and bad in each of us and showing how people can change. It might sound cheezy but I thought the movie did a good job of showing that fact. Mos Def was fantastic and Bruce Willis did a great job at playing a fat, drunk, useless cop. Even though the movie took place in a small area and within a small time frame it packed a lot in.

Nothing to write home about, but watchable I suppose. It's full of Hollywood-style sentimentality and blunt morality and this is mostly delivered through clumsy dialogue rather than actual action. But Bruce and Mos play a good odd couple and make the best of their characters.

16 Block really underwhelmed me. I expected so much more from a thriller directed by Richard Donner & starring Bruce Willis. I have no care for Mos Def though and he just annoys here. I just couldn't believe how bland this was and the premise seemed interesting, but it just never delivers. The whole time I just wanted to wind up the pace as it just plods along. And it's as if everybody involved just settles for mediocrity.

So how come no one told me in the last decade that this movie is actually pretty damn good? Bruce Willis plays his age for once and in doing so weirdly makes this the most authentic spiritual sequel to the original Die Hard ever made, giving us a J.M.-initialed protagonist who would rather let the police deal with his problems if at all possible (though circumstances force him into acton, of course). The action is fairly mild-mannered, all things considered, but there are real emotional stakes.

I watch action movies very rarely, but the drama aspect makes this one special. We get to know a cop with some kind of a depression who - at first - acts very rude, but his reasons for this kind of behaviour will surface. Bruce Willis sometimes changes his face expressions here which I consider a great landmark for him. Mos Def is ok, I don't know why some people complain - his voice is a little bit strange, but it's not his fault so don't blame the man. He acts ok. The bakery motive is sweet :)

This could have been a decent film, but Mos Def is the most annoying actor in this film. And it's painful to drag the audience through this kind of thing. Could Willis have have gotten through those 16 Blocks without Def?

Pedestrian action. Characters go through the motions to achieve development. Everything is expected. Squanders the real-time element by trying to shove a ton of development in characters in less than 2 real life hours. The whole film is forced. Nice cinematography and varied use of space, and Willis doesn't do bad with the material (no clue what Mos Def is trying to do though) but it just isn't enough. It's competent, but so bland and dry I don't understand why it was made.

I had a good time with 16 Blocks. It has enough action to keep you entertained, even if the pauses come at odd intervals and seem to completely crush any momentum the film was building. But watching Bruce Willis in a half-decent action flick is almost always entertaining, even if 16 Blocks appeared to be the victim of being trimmed down too much, introducing too many elements that weren't expanded upon. Still, it's fun, and that's what you want out of an action flick, go watch it.

What ever happened to the great Richard Donner. He was the one of the biggest names in directing in the 80's , but faded into obscurity with mediocre attempts at cinema ( see Timeline, Assassins). Again , tho not a bad movie , it fails to deliver on almost everything it promises. Almost no action, hardly any good acting. Script and story bland and predictable. Cmon Mr. Donner, you can choose better scripts than this? Or maybe hes just getting old.

An enjoyable, if not predictable little thriller that has flown under many people's radar. Mos Def deserves credit for playing a character who is very annoying and yet getting the audience to like him relatively quickly. Willis is ok, seems to be mailing it in mostly. It's not something I would necessarily recommend people to see, but if they asked me specifically if it was worth a watch I'd probably say yes.

A formulaic little thriller about a veteran cop who is back in action when he meets a good-hearted black prisoner, played by Mos Def. 16 Blocks just screams straight to DVD but it actually proves to be a surprisingly enjoyable watch. Bruce Willis demonstrates his rarely seen acting skills as the tired underdog battling with his loyalties and morality alongside Mos Def, who despite his remarkably annoying voice, puts in a decent performance in the cliched role of an unjustly treated black con. A decent mix of action, smart twists and drama. Far from spectacular but a solid crime thriller.

A taut and mostly intelligent thriller about doing the right thing. Willis packed on some pounds for the role: he's looking and acting his age, in one of the better performances he's given in a while. Mos Def's Eddie is at times annoying, but he grows on you as the film progresses. Perhaps the irritation was intentional. The story is fairly cliche, and you won't take anything away from watching it, but I had a good time. It's a well-made movie, and a good director can make a world of difference.
