This is quite well-made but lacking in the nuance necessary to take it out of the realm of the melodramatic. It's just a bit too blunt / dumb in its story beats and particularly in its portrayal of homophobia. But that's to be expected in a teenage story, and it's still affecting and effective even with these flaws.

This is a very difficult film to rate. It’s very well made, its lack of romance is actually a breath of fresh air as far as gay films go, and the twist(?) it pulls 30 minutes in is interesting. My issues with it stem from the last 20 or so minutes, which I feel could’ve ended better, and the fact that the amount of homophobia feels over the top in this day and age. For some reason French Language gay films tend to be really good.
