Twelve Russian jurors deciding the fate of a young Chechen accused of murdering his adoptive Russian father go over the details of the case in the school gymnasium that is serving as their jury room. As they argue with each other while struggling to reach a verdict, illustrating their views with stories from their own lives, the case itself becomes a metaphor for the problems plaguing modern Russian society. Russian cinema grand, Mikhalkov renders classic Hollywood script into a movie that mirrors the reality of todays Russia. Some things didn't change - 12 men with different stories in one room have to decide the fate of a young, outsider man. 12 often feels like a play, but that's not a bad thing. Narrative mostly consists of monologues by characters. Although, characters are a bit overdone, we get to witness some great acting. Intense, captivating movie, good remake.

Satisfying remake of 12 angry men. The acting and music were both solid, the direction was a bit distracting but wasn't terrible, However all the flashbacks hurt the pacing of the film and to me at least served no real purpose except to bloat the runtime.

did a good job capturing the pressure of the original. had some great monologues, but other parts felt cheap or off.

Not a bad re-imagining of 12 Angry Men. Superbly acted, but overwrought, overly theatrical and definitely way too long.

An incredible adaptation of 12 Angry Men. It calls itself 12, but really there are 13. Russia is as much a character as any in this film.

Loosely based on 1957's 12 Angry Men, Nikita Mikhalkov's superbly acted 12 is clever and gripping like its predecessor, but with a distinctly Russian feel.

"Nikita Mikhalkov's 12 reconfigures Reginald Rose's 12 Angry Men for contemporary Russia, adopting the basic premise of the legendary source material while thoroughly grounding it in his homeland's current condition." - Nick Schager

Strong picture of Russian modern reality. A bit theatrical as Chemical404 said, but brilliantly directed (director was one of the juror himself) and gracefully acted. Several my favourite actors.

The legal system in Russia has changed mightily since 1993. Jury trials now are common; both countries now rely on citizen-jurors. *12* features fine ensemble acting and preserves the plot twists and turns of *Twelve Angry Men*. It is an engrossing film, and one with an important underlying message. The Russian jurors in the film are people like us; in different circumstances, they could be us. Implicitly, the film affirms the common humanity of common people in the two countries.

Exceptional, finely tuned re-wording and re-imagining of 12 ANGRY MEN, set in present day Russia and using the scenario to comment on post-Soviet Russian Society. Director Mikhailkov gets first rate performances from his entire ensemble and, at 2.5 hours, gives the story and deliberations ample room to breathe in contrast to Lumet's (great) film which economises on time. Fascinating to contrast and compare this with Lumet's film, and Friedkin's 1997 remake.

12 angry man'e 8, buna 9/10 beybi. askerler vurulup duserken, kenarlarda bayrak sallayarak alkis tutan insanlarin oldugu sahne de bambaskaydi, çok ironikti hani.

too long compared the original; 12 angry men and it doesnt say much more than it. just shows a new perspective but that is not the explanation of the junk minutes.

If you are hoping for a classical remake of 12 Angry Men, this isn't it. What made that special was everything clicked. The life experiences of the jurors and observations during the trial and of the evidence during deliberations was tightly crafted and actually made sense. I did, however, like the flashbacks of the boys younger days, opening the film up to give the viewer a glimpse into whether or not he committed the crime based on his troubled past. Overall, a lil too over the top.

Guys, this is not a movie. Mihalkov used the movie frame to give some morality talks. I do not like that. I do not trust something already chewed. The actors are great, though.
